Randomization in I'm A Speedrunner competitions is a method of selecting a speedrun's game or objective fairly. Randomizations have been available to I'm A Speedrunner competitors since the first tournament. Despite this, the process was not utilized until IAS 6.
The randomization, usually carried out by the tournament host(s), is typically similar to the drawing process for competitors. A number of items representing suggested games/speedruns are placed in a container and shuffled. One item is then drawn out and the condition this item represents is the one selected for the speedrun.
Other methods have been used, such as computer software, to select a number of items at random but this is less common than using the physical container method.
